What You Can Expect When Attending a Typical Sunday Service at Dorval-Strathmore United Church
We worship with song, prayer, reading God's word and fellowship with eachother
HOW GOOD IT IS, GOD, TO BE HERE!
You will be greeted as you enter and an Usher will provide you with a copy of the Order of Service ("the bulletin"). In anticipation of the 9:30 service, you will have the opportunity to catch up with fellow parishioners. Announcements will be made about upcoming events and the life and work of the congregation.
PRELUDE and CALL TO WORSHIP
Worship begins with a musical prelude followed by a responsive call to worship led by the Minister.
The Congregation is invited to stand (when able) and sing from the Hymn books provided. All Hymns are listed in the Order of Service as well as on the wall at the front of the Church.
The Minister or a member of the Congregation will lead a responsive prayer which is printed in the Order of Service.
The Congregation sings "Spirit of Life". The words are printed in the Order of Service but if you life to follow along with the music it is #381 in the Voices United Hymn book.
The Minister greets the Congregation and tell the children and young at heart a story. On the first Sunday of every month, it is "Happy Hat" day where an additional offering is taken up that will be given to the United Church's Mission and Service Fund. For more information about Mission and Service, please see: https://www.united-church.ca/community-faith/get-involved/giving-choices
The Congregation sings another Hymn at which time the children leave for Sunday School (if they want to). Children are always welcome to remain throughout the service.
There will be one or more Scripture readings done by the Minister.
The Minister provides reflections and guidance based on the Scripture readings of the day.
The Congregation sings.
THANKS. HELP. WOW.
The Minister leads the prayers of gratitude, joy and concern and ends with the Congregation saying or singing the Lord's Prayer (# 959 in Voices United).
The Ushers walk through the Congregation collecting money. You are welcome to give whatever you are able. During the collection, the Choir sings. (If you sing....you can join us Thursday nights at 7pm for rehearsals and the you could sing Sunday mornings too!!)
The Congregation sings "Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow" (#541 in Voices United)

The Congregation remains standing and recites the Statement which is normally printed in the Order of Service. Otherwise you can find it in Voices United #917.
BRING IT ON!
The Congregation rises to sing the closing Hymn.
